Adversity strikes again for Bradley at Lime Rock Park

June 1, 2004. Lakeville, CT. Lime Rock Park has always played a game of give and take with Scott Bradley as the SCCA Speed World Challenge Touring Car Championship makes it’s annual appearance on Memorial Day weekend, each time allowing him to show flashes of his potential only to have his race end early.

In 2002, Bradley qualified on the front row only to be knocked out of the race by a teammate on the opening laps. In 2003 while battling in the rain for second place he was once again forced out of the race by contact. Bradley hoped the third time would prove to be the charm, but once again Lime Rock Park would only offer disappointment. After transmission difficulties would limit his time on track during the practice sessions, another failure in the race would force Bradley out after the third lap.

“In qualifying the Protomotive Mazda Protegé was the best it's been all year. I put down one lap just to get a time then pitted to make some minor changes. I got one lap in after the stop then we lost fourth gear and had to park it. My hopes for the race were high,” Bradley said afterwards.

Once the race started Bradley focused on protecting his corners and setting his race pace when it all came to an end. “I had made it through the first corner clean and started to work into my race pace when the drain plug on the transmission let go as I started my third lap. I heard a huge whoosh and felt a huge pressure release. I looked back and saw nothing but a huge cloud of smoke behind me so I quickly pulled off the track.”

Despite the early finish Bradley still leaves Lime Rock Park encouraged by the progress the team is making. “While the end result of the weekend was not a good one I was pretty happy with the progress we are making on the car,” Bradley explained. “The team and I have really started to gel now we just need some racing luck on our side and come together as a team and I think we can get there. I'd like to thank Jim and Joe Jordan as well as the rest of the crew for all their hard work. I'd also like to thank Circuit City, Sony and Peak Travel for their support.”

The SCCA Speed World Challenge Touring Car Championship will head to the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for Round Three of the championship on June 26th. For more information on Scott Bradley please visit www.speedrcr.com.
